This summer, our White & Case Manila office showcased the power of coming together to support various causes through the Global Citizenship initiative.

One of these efforts was Brigada Eskwela, an annual program organized by the Department of Education that unites community members and volunteers to ensure schools are clean and safe for learning. We gathered materials to support the clean-up and repairs of classrooms and the school grounds of Del Carmen Elementary School to ensure everything was ready for the start of the school year.

The Manila office also hosted a workshop where they assembled solar lamps for a remote community in Rodriguez, Rizal, in partnership with Liter of Light. Our colleagues helped light the homes of 50 families in a community that previously lacked access to electricity. This initiative brought them closer to improving their access to essential services.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered! We look forward to organizing more opportunities in the future.

As we celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, we are reminded of the strength that diversity brings to our Firm and our clients. This year’s theme, “Pioneers of change: Shaping the future together,” recognizes trailblazers within the Hispanic/Latinx diaspora.

To honour this year’s theme, we will welcome Pilar Ramos, Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at TelevisaUnivision, the world’s leading Spanish-language content and media company. Pilar will share her personal career journey, discussing the opportunities available to Hispanics and Latinos in the legal profession, as well as her insights on promoting innovation, maintaining resilience, and fostering unity in the Latinx community.

Last week, our Frankfurt office hosted the second edition of the Women's Retreat at Schlosshotel Kronberg, bringing together future women lawyers.

The retreat included an interactive workshop on leadership, led by Professor Madeleine Bernhardt, Co-Director of the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession. Attendees gained valuable insights on coaching leadership style, effective self-management, and how to independently achieve their goals. Later that evening everyone enjoyed a barbecue on the castle terrace, and the event concluded the next morning with a forest hike during which the group practiced a variety of mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

The White & Case Tampa office recently hosted a series of impactful events for the Firm's Symphony of Inclusion Diversity Week, an event that celebrates our employees' diverse backgrounds.

We started the week by partnering with Metropolitan Ministries (@metro_min), a non-profit organization that supports individuals at risk of homelessness and communities disproportionately affected by systemic inequalities and discrimination, where our employees assisted with donations and provided care for children in their daycare program.

In addition, the Tampa Women's Network hosted a panel discussion featuring White & Case colleagues who discussed the importance of allyship in advancing gender equality and fostering workplace inclusivity. The week then concluded with our Affinity Network Fair, where colleagues were able to meet with different network representatives to learn about their respective initiatives, goals, and upcoming events, and had the opportunity to sign up to become a member.

Last month, White & Case participated in Diversity Lab’s 2024 “Movements to Movements Hackathon,” hosted at the NYU School of Law. More than 100 legal department leaders, law firm partners, and Diversity & Inclusion experts joined forces to pitch innovative D&I programs.

The "Shark Tank” inspired competition challenged participants to develop sustainable and scalable solutions to strengthen D&I across the legal profession, while also ensuring fair and equal access to high-quality work, sponsors, and other opportunities for all talent.

White & Case partner Caroline Miller Smith contributed as a key member of the “Career Catalyst” team, which designed a program bridging mentorship and sponsorship. The initiative pairs high-potential, mid-level lawyers with experienced in-house counsel leaders, providing them with structured support, advocacy, and exposure to senior leaders. The “Career Catalyst” team received an honorable mention, and their program will be further developed and piloted alongside other winning solutions in participating organizations.

Last week, our London Women’s Affinity Network members organized a volunteer event for the @littlevillagehq Baby Bank in London.

They spent the morning sorting clothing donations, assembling Christmas packs of clothing and toys, packing care parcels for new mothers, and organizing donated toys.

Little Village is a nonprofit organization with over 300 baby banks across the UK. Through their network, they pass on pre-loved goods from one family to another, ensuring that babies and young children have the essential items they need to thrive.
