10 reasons to do a solicitor apprenticeship at White & Case

September 2024: If you think that working as a City lawyer could be the right path for you, here's what you need to know about Launch into Law, our solicitor apprenticeship programme at White & Case in London.

1. You're interested in a career in law but don't want to go to university
Don't want to graduate in debt, or simply feel that you're ready to enter the world of work already? Over six years, you'll get all the skills, qualifications and experience that you need to become a top global lawyer.

2. You want to earn good money from day one
You'll start on a salary of £32,000, which will increase annually. We'll also pay your tuition fees, and even give you £1,000 when you start to help you get set up for your new working life.

3. You've got a strong academic track record
We have high academic expectations of our Launch into Law solicitor apprentices. You'll need AAB at A level (and 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including Maths and English) and you'll graduate from the programme with a Level 7 qualification, the equivalent of a Master's degree.

4. You're not afraid of hard work
The Launch into Law programme will be demanding and require hard work, dedication and the ability to manage your regular workload while studying too. The learning curve will be steep and you can expect occasional long hours and weekend working to keep on top of all that's asked of you.

5. You want to keep learning
As well as learning on the job, you'll get formal legal qualifications. Over six years, you'll spend four days a week working in our City of London offices, and one day studying at the University of Law (ULaw). You'll be awarded an LLB Law and LLB Legal Practice and Skills and complete the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations Parts 1 and 2.

6. You're not sure what kind of lawyer you want to be yet
We want you to get the exposure and training you need to become a top lawyer in a global law firm. You'll rotate through multiple different practice areas to learn about the work we do and how our lawyers work together. By the end of your Launch into Law solicitor apprenticeship, we expect that you will be able to make a well-informed choice about your chosen area of the law.

7. You're interested in working with people from different backgrounds and cultures
You'll experience the diversity of our people every day, whether that's over a specialty international dish of the day in our free Broad Steet Kitchen restaurant or working seamlessly on a team with people located in different countries.

8. You're resilient and tenacious
Our clients come to us with their most demanding and intricate international legal challenges. Often, the work that we do sets the legal precedent that others follow. That involves hard work and determination to find a course. The right mindset and attitude drives our success.

9. You're not afraid to ask for help and support
We know that you're new to the world of work and to City Law and we'll provide you with all the support you need to succeed. You'll have a supervisor, a mentor and a buddy at the Firm, ongoing support from the Early Careers team, ULaw and the wider City Century network. We want you to ask for support, whether that's with practical office know-how, work questions or your own wellness needs.

10. You're self-motivated but a team player too
Join us and you're in for six exciting years of work, learning, friendships and building a solid foundation for your career. You'll need to be a self-starter who can work to deadlines and seek out feedback to help you grow. You'll always work in teams – eventually taking on more and more responsibility – and you'll be proud to play your part in your team's shared success.
